Saving our ocean one plastic at a time

Do your part to reduce plastic, pollution, and global warming

Imagine you’re on the beach, looking at the bright blue sea and the pretty sun- set, the wind in your hair. But instead, the water is dirty and dark, and air has a funny scent to it. It’s because of our life- style. We don’t notice the harm we are causing to our ocean and the life that lives out there. We should be taking care of our ocean, not harming it just for our own needs. We should be helping the world we live in before we lose it and it’s way too late to save it. Some issues that cause the most harm are things like global warming, pollution, and any spills or dumps. Global warming is melting the ice and glaciers around the world. It adds more water to the ocean, a lot of water. This adds water levels that cause it to rise up too high on land and can cause it to disappear completely. This is a threat to both us and marine life. We can fix this by not using as much energy like gas, oils, or fuels to save energy. Not only does it benefit the world, but it saves you money. Plastic and trash in the ocean is pretty well known. You may have littered every once in a while, think- ing it won’t do anything. In reality, something small caused this big problem. It harms marine life because they can get caught in the plastic, leaving it stuck on them until they die off. Recycling and throw- ing your trash away in the right places can make a big difference. These are only some examples of problems that we can fix from home, or any- where. Maybe you want the fancy things and maybe you think one person won’t do much, but when it all adds up, it becomes a huge thing. Maybe people use it to make money to live, or they use it to make a better world with the newest things in life, but is it really worth it to lose the world we live on because of what we want? Overfishing is a big thing too. People like to eat fish, and don’t get me wrong, seafood is pretty good, but we fish too much, too quickly. Fish that we normally eat like bluefin tuna are now an endangered species. Some laws require you to have a fishing permit, but you can’t take it back without certain measures. When big businesses with money come through, like SeaWorld, taking already endangered animals to keep for one plastic at a time show like killer whales, we can’t stop them. We can help with the overfishing problem by not eating a lot of seafood, so demands for it goes down and these common fish aren’t endangered anymore. We can also stop funding businesses like SeaLife who say they want to love and take care of these animals, but in reality, they are harming them for profit. We should help change the world to a better place, not just for us, but for the people who come after us, so they can live in a healthy world. Saving energy, taking the extra few steps to recycle, not eating as much sea- food, and donating money to businesses that help put marine life back to where they belong. This is how we can save our Earth.
